Raja Rammohan Roy

Rammohan Roy was born on 22 May 1772 in a growing family in the village of Khanakul Radhanagar in Hughli district. Rammohun's father's name is Ramkant Roy and mother's name is Tarini Devi (Tarini Roy).

Rammohan was talented from his childhood. At a young age he was proficient in Sanskrit, Arabic and Persian. Rammohan was not a believer in idolatry. He believed that God is one, that God has no form.
From an early age he protested against all forms of injustice. No Indian can sit in a chair in front of the British, no Indian can ride a palanquin in front of anyone - Rammohan protested against all these injustices. At that time a terrible custom was prevalent in our country. The wife was also burnt to death along with her husband's body. The name of this practice was "Satidah practice". Rammohan worked tirelessly to abolish this cruel practice by enacting laws in collaboration with the English.

At that time there was no circulation of newspapers in the country. He first published a newspaper called "Sangbad Kaumudi". In 1818 he founded the Hindu College with Mr. David Hare, now known as the "Presidency College". In 1823 he founded the "Anglo Hindu School". He introduced English education in collaboration with Mr. David Hare.
He established a kinship meeting to dispel the superstition of Hinduism. Later its name was changed to 'Brahmo Samaj'. In this Brahmo Samaj there were also heads of society like Prince Dwarkanath Tagore, Prasannakumar Tagore, Kalinath Munshi of Taki

The king of Delhi requested him to go to England. But because of his busy schedule, he could not keep his request for the first time. Later, in 1831, Rammohan went to England with the title of 'King', an envoy of the King of Delhi. There he gained considerable fame.

Rammohan was the first Indian to visit England. Educated in Western education, Rammohan went to France at the invitation of Emperor Louis Filippi. Then he returned to England. But the weather in England was unbearable for Rammohan. He got fever. He died on 26 September 1833 in Bristol, England. That is where his tomb is established.
